ADA Accommodations: Persons requiring accommodation at public meetings should contact the City Manager's Office at 436-2200 at least 48-hours in advance of the scheduled meeting.

Adopt-A-Park Program: Individuals or groups interested in adopting a Gladstone park for volunteer clean-up activities may contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 437-CITY extension 4009.

Aerobics Classes: For information on schedules, fees and locations call the Parks & Recreation Department at 436-2200.

Alarm Permits: All residences/businesses in the City with an alarm system are required to have an alarm permit. Permits may be obtained free of charge from the Public Safety Department. For additional information contact the Alarm Coordinator at 436-2200 extension 3512.

Ambulance Service: Emergency ambulance service originating within the City limits is provided at no out-of-pocket charge to Gladstone residents. Non-emergency transports will be provided by the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Trust (MAST) and are subject to a charge.

Animal Bites: Bite reports are investigated and animals are confined for rabies observation period. For more information or to report an animal bite contact the Public Safety Department at 436-3550.

Animal Shelter: The Gladstone Animal Shelter is open from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. For more information on adoption or to claim an animal after hours call 436-1810.

Auctions: The City periodically conducts an auction of unclaimed or surplus City property. Notices will be published in local newspapers. For more information contact the Public Safety Department at 436-2200 extension 3507.

Basketball Leagues: For information on adult and youth basketball programs offered by the Parks & Recreation Department call 436-2200.

Beautification: The City of Gladstone holds a Beautification event each April which provides residents an opportunity to dispose of large, bulky items. For information and dates contact the City Manager's Office at 436-2200.

Better Business Bureau: The Kansas City area office may be reached at 421-7800.

Birth Certificates: To obtain a certified copy of a Missouri birth certificate contact the Missouri Department of Health, Division of Vital Records at (314) 751-6400.

Block Party Permit: A written request must be submitted to the Public Safety Department which specifies the location, the date and time of the event. Permits cannot be issued in heavy traffic areas. For more information contact the Public Safety Department at 436-2200 extension 3501.

Boards and Commissions: The City of Gladstone encourages citizens to serve on its many diverse Boards and Commissions. Citizen participation is an integral part of City government. For more information on Boards and Commissions call the City Manager's Office at 436-2200.

Budget: Questions about the City's annual budget may be answered by calling the Finance Department at 436-2200.

Building Code Administration: The City conducts all inspections using the Uniform Building Code as adopted and amended by City ordinance. For more information on building codes and standards contact the Planning & Development Department at 436-2200 extension 3401.

Building Inspections, Fire Code: Are conducted by the Gladstone Public Safety Department. For more information call 454-8310.

Building Permits: A building permit is required for any structure attached to your home (decks, carports, room additions, patio covers, garages, interior room finishes) or for a shed or garage with more than 120-sq.-ft. Burning, Outdoor: Outdoor burning is strictly prohibited by City ordinance. Recreational fires, such as a contained cooking fire, are permitted when managed in accordance with City ordinance. Bonfires are only allowed with the permission of the Public Safety Department. For more information, contact the Public Safety Department at 454-8310.

Bus Route Schedules and Information: The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority offers limited bus service in the City of Gladstone. For more information call 221-0660.

Cable Television: For billing inquiries, information regarding cable installation or cable repair call American Cablevision at 358-8833.

Cadet Program, Public Safety: The Public Safety Department offers area youth an opportunity to perform a variety of duties which do not require the services of a commissioned public safety officer. For more information contact the Public Safety Department at 436-2200 extension 3512.

Capital Improvements: To find out when public improvements such as street construction, sewers, park improvements, etc. are scheduled and how they are to be financed, call the Engineering Department at 436-2200. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Engineering Department for the appropriate time and place to discuss projects of concern.

Chamber of Commerce: To reach the Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce call 436-GLAD (436-4523).

Child Abuse: To report child abuse or neglect contact the Public Safety Department at 436-3550 or the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-392-3738 (Voice) or 1-800-669-8689 (TDD).

Child Care Licensing: State of Missouri licenses are required for in-home or other child care facilities caring for more than four children. For more information on the state licensing procedure, please call 325-5867. In addition to the state license, providers caring for more than four children require an occupation license from the City of Gladstone. More information may be obtained by calling the City Collector at 436-2200 extension 3207.

Child Restraint, Automobiles: All children four years or younger must be properly restrained in an approved child restraint seat. Failure to restrain a child may result in a fine. To report a child restraint violation call the Public Safety Department at 436-3550.

City Clerk: Maintains the official City records. For information call 436-2200.

City Construction Projects: For information on City (public) construction projects call the Engineering Department at 436-2200.

City Council: To contact any of the City Council members, including the Mayor, call the City Manager's Office at 436-2200.

City Council Elections: Primary elections are held each February, if necessary. General elections are held each April. For more information contact the City Clerk at 436-2200.

City Council Meetings: Are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Gladstone City Hall. All meetings are open to the public and a portion of each meeting is set aside for public participation and comment. Meeting agendas are listed on Cable Channel 25 and posted in the lobby of City Hall prior to each meeting.

City Hall: Is located at 7010 N. Holmes. The mailing address is P.O. Box 10719, Gladstone, MO 64188-0719. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8-5 (except national holidays). The Public Safety Department is located on the lower level of City Hall (west side) and is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Community Services Department: Is housed at the Public Works Facility located at 4000 NE 76th Street (just north of Happy Rock Park). Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8-5. For more information call 436-5442.

Complaints: Have a complaint about City services or operations? Call the City Manager's Office at 436-2200.

Composting: Is regulated by City ordinance. For information on backyard composting call the Code Enforcement Office at 436-2200 extension 3405.

Court Cases: If you have questions regarding a court case being heard in the City's Municipal Court or questions regarding Municipal Court dates call the Court Clerk at 436-2200.

CPR Training: Is offered through the Public Safety Department. For more information call 454-8310.

Crime Prevention: For information regarding crime prevention tips and programs for residents and businesses call the Public Safety Department at 436-2200 extension 3512.

D.A.R.E. Program: The Public Safety Department teaches a 17-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program to all 5th-graders in Gladstone elementary schools. A parent program is also offered to adults with school-aged children. For more information contact the D.A.R.E. Unit at 436-2200 extension 3513.

Death Certificates: To obtain a certified copy of a Missouri death certificate contact the Missouri Department of Health, Division of Vital Records at (314) 751-6400.

Demographic Information: On the City of Gladstone may be obtained through the Planning & Development Department at 436-2200 extension 3401.

Disability Information: Citizens with disabilities who have concerns, suggestions, questions or complaints regarding accessibility to City facilities and/or to City programs and services should contact the City Manager's Office at 436-2200.

Dog License: For information on obtaining a dog license contact Animal Control at 436-1810.

Dogs: The City's lease law requires dogs, when outdoors, to be kept in an adequately fenced yard or leased. Annual rabies shots and licenses are also required. Animal control officers patrol streets and pick up stray dogs and dead animals, which are taken to the Animal Shelter. For more information contact Animal Control at 436-1810.

Domestic Violence: The Public Safety Department and the State of Missouri have very strict enforcement laws and guidelines regarding adult abuse (domestic violence). You have the right not to be abused. Information and action are available through the Public Safety Department when needed. Call 436-3550 to talk with a Dispatcher. If it is an emergency, dial 9-1-1. Drainage: To report a clogged storm sewer inlet, contact the Community Services Department at 436-5442. If the situation requires emergency assistance after hours or on weekends, please call the Public Safety Department at 436-3550. For information about storm water drainage projects, call the Engineering Department at 436-2200.

Driver's License: For information on obtaining or renewing your driver's license, contact the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles at 436-6555.

Fences: Fences up to 6 ft. in height may be installed without a permit. Fences may not be installed in the front yard. For required setbacks and additional information contact the Planning & Development Department at 436-2200 extension 3401.

Fire: To report a fire call 9-1-1.

Fire Code Administration: The City conducts all inspections utilizing the Uniform Fire Code as adopted and amended by City ordinance. For more information on the Fire Code call the Public Safety Department at 454-8310.

Fire Hydrant Testing: The City flows and test hydrants annually to ensure that adequate fire flows are available. On occasion, your water may appear muddy or yellow in color following hydrant testing. Let your water run for several minutes until it clears. Fire Inspector: The City has a regular fire inspection and plan review program for businesses within the City. For more information or to schedule an inspection call the Public Safety Department at 454-8310.

Fire Lanes: City ordinance prohibits standing or parking in a designated fire lane. The fine for parking in a fire lane is $50 plus $13 court costs. You may report a violation by calling the Public Safety Department at 436-3550.

Fire Prevention Programs: The Public Safety Department has an active fire prevention program recognized as one of the best in the metropolitan area. Tours and programs are available at either station or may be brought to your site. Public displays of apparatus/ambulances may be arranged for special events. Grading and Excavation Permit: A grading and excavation permit is required for certain types of work in the City of Gladstone. For more information please contact the Engineering Department at 436-2200.

Handicapped Parking: City ordinance prohibits any standing or parking in spaces designated for handicap parking only. The fine is $50 plus $13 court costs. House Numbers: City code requires the address to be shown on each house or building. House numbers on curbs are voluntary, and are not required by City Code or emergency services.

License Tags: For information regarding a license tag for your vehicle contact the Missouri Department of Motor Vehicles at 436-6555.

Liquor Dispensing Permit: Any individual directly involved in the sale of any alcoholic beverage by tending bar, waiting tables, delivering across a pick-up counter or ringing of sales on the register must have a liquor dispensing permit. The permit can be obtained through the Public Safety Department and requires at 'Intent to Hire' form from the employer, a picture ID and $15. Police, Investigations: General investigations are conducted by the detective unit. Usually, the assigned detective will contact you if there are any developments in the reported incident. Police Reports: Reports are generally available from the Public Safety Department 3-5 days after an incident occurs. You may obtain a copy of a report by bringing $4 and a picture ID to the Public Safety Department between the hours of 8-5, Monday through Friday. Public Hearings: Are required by law on a variety of issues. Public hearing notices are published in the local paper, posted at City Hall and run on Cable Channel 25.

Rabies and Stray Dog Control: The leash law requires dogs, when outdoors, to be kept in a fenced yard or leashed. Annual rabies shots and permits (licenses) are also required. Animal Control officers patrol streets and pick up stray dogs and dead animals, which are taken to the Gladstone Animal Control Shelter. For more information contact Animal Control at 436-1810.

Requests for Public Works Improvements: To request the construction of public improvements such as streets, sewers, water, drainage, etc., call the Engineering Department at 436-2200.

Roofing: Roofing permits are not required. However, your roofing contractor must have a current occupation license with the City of Gladstone. Severe Storm Warming: In the event of a severe storm (tornado) the City's warning sirens will be activated. Snow Emergency: If weather dictates, the City Manager may declare a Snow Emergency. Any vehicle parked along Emergency Snow Routes may be ticketed or towed. Please watch Cable Channel 25 or call City Hall at 436-2200 during winter storms for information on which phase of Gladstone's Emergency Snow ordinance is in effect.

Snow Removal: The City's snow removal policy provides for the clearing of all main traffic thoroughfares first, followed by residential streets and then cul-de-sacs. Gladstone City Code, Section 18-36 prohibits pushing or dumping snow from private property onto the City right-of-way. Sobriety Checkpoint: The City of Gladstone periodically conducts sobriety checkpoints at various locations throughout the City in accordance with Missouri State guidelines. Swimming Pool, Public: The Gladstone municipal swimming pool is open from late May through Labor Day each year. The facility includes an 18' wading pool, a 2'6" intermediate pool and an Olympic-sized pool with a three board diving well. Trash Collection: The City of Gladstone does not provide trash collection service. To arrange trash service, including yard waste disposal, consult the Yellow Pages listings under Trash Hauling. Water, Discolored: Occasionally as a result of fire hydrant testing or construction work in your neighborhood, your water may appear muddy or yellow in color. Let your water run for several minutes until it clears. If the problem persists contact the Community Services Department at 436-5442.

Water Main Leak: If you see large amounts of water running down the street, boiling up out of the ground or other evidence of a water leak, call the Community Services Department at 436-5442. After hours and on weekends, call the Public Safety Department at 436-3550.

Water Meter Boxes: Water meters are housed in meter boxes, which are carefully installed in the ground and covered with a heavy lid to prevent injury. Occasionally the box will settle below ground level, dirt will erode from around the box, or someone will remove the lid. Please report any problems with a meter box by calling the Community Services Department at 436-5442.

Water Pipes, Frozen: The water in meters and/or pipes may freeze in sub-zero weather. The Water Department can help only if the meter or water in the main pipe system is frozen. If you think you have a frozen water meter call the Community Services Department at 436-5442. Consult a plumber if in-home plumbing or the pipe leading from the meter to your home or business is frozen.

Water Pressure: If you or your neighbors have no water, or lower pressure than usual, the Water Department may be doing emergency work in your neighborhood. You will be notified prior to scheduled work that would interrupt service with a notice hung on your door. If you have not received notice of service interruption, call the Community Services Department at 436-5442.

Water Quality Questions: For questions about the quality or chemical content of the water, or if the water tastes or smells unusual, call the Community Services Department at 436-5442.

Water/Sewer Bills, Payment: Water/sewer bills may be paid by mail or in person at Gladstone City Hall, 7010 N. Holmes. A drop-box is located near the front entrance for after-hours convenience. Water bills may also be paid, before the 15th of each month, at the First Bank of Missouri located at 7001 N. Oak.

Weeds/Weed Mowing: Weeds and grass should not exceed 12 inches on developed property or 18 inches on undeveloped property. Yard Waste: State law prohibits grass clippings, leaves, limbs and other yard debris from being disposed of in Missouri landfills. Each resident is responsible for disposing of yard waste in an acceptable manner which might include: contracting with your residential trash hauler, backyard composting or arranging for disposal with a licensed private hauler. It is against City ordinance to place yard waste in drainage structures, streams or creeks.
