Aerobics
Aqua Aerobics - Come join us in a fun and invigorating water aerobics class where we'll use music and aqua toys to strengthen your heart, tone your muscles, decrease your body fat and increase your endurance and energy level. Each session includes 12 class meetings. Pre-registration is required. Session II: Monday, July 13 - Friday, August 7, M, W, F 10:30-11:15 a.m., 5:45-6:30 p.m., or T, Th, F 5:45-6:30 p.m. Fee: $30 (no membership discount)
Toning and Aerobics - Strengthen your muscles, build your endurance and lose weight and inches with our evening aerobics classes. New classes every 6 weeks. Enrollment is limited. Pre-registration is required. For next starting date, contact the Recreation Division at 436-2200. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:45-6:45 p.m., Gladstone Community Building, 800 N.E. 69th Street. Fee: $20 per session.

Babysitting/Child Care Classes
Babysitting is often a teenager's first job, but it's also a job that must be taken seriously and responsibly. In this nine-hour course (three 3-hour classes), babysitters learn about babysitting as a job, parent's expectations, age-appropriate games and activities, diapering, feeding and basic first aid. Each participant also receives a babysitting manual which may be taken along to jobs as a handy reference. A certificate of completion is awarded with attendance at all classes. Pre-registration is required. All participants must be in at least 5th grade or 10 years of age to enroll. Session II: Thursdays, September 17, September 24, and October 1, Gladstone City hall Council Chambers. Fee: $35. Registration deadline: Wednesday, September 9.

Developmental Youth Basketball
Co-sponsored by City of Gladstone and the North Kansas City School District Continuing Education Program, this program offers instruction in the fundamentals of basketball and organized team participation for boys and girls of various skill levels in grades 1 through 8. This program will provide an enjoyable learning experience for each child and will enhance their emotional, physical, social and educational well being. Good sportsmanship, equal play opportunities, learning and fun are the fundamentals of this program. Registration: Monday, October 12-Wednesday, November 6, or until leagues are full. Practice begins the week of November 30 at various North Kansas City Schools. Fee: $50, includes a uniform t-shirt.

Dance Classes
Beginning Dance will be offered though Ibsen Dance Studio. Session II: Wednesdays 11 a.m. - noon, July 15, July 22, July 29, August 5, 6-8 year olds. Registration deadline: Friday, July 10. Thursdays 4-5 p.m., July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, 9-12 year olds. Registration deadline: Friday, July 10. Fee: $35 per 4-week session.

Dog Obedience Classes
Designed to make your dog a better citizen, the curriculum used will be the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen Program. At the conclusion of the 8-week session, your dog will have the opportunity to test for a certificate of completion as a Good Canine Citizen. Registration for advance classes is still being offered. Dogs must be 4 months of age or older and have current rabies vaccination. Handlers must be 18 years of age or older and provide a collar and lease for their dog. Space is limited. Session II Advanced, Thursdays, August 20 and October 8, 7-8 p.m. Fee: $40 per dog, per session. Registration deadline: Thursday, August 13.

Football
Adult Flag Football - Seven-player teams will meet on the gridiron for non-contact-style football under the direction of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association rules. Divisions include Men's Competitive, Men's Intermediate and Women's Competitive. Fall League Registration: Tuesday, July 21-Friday, August 28. Play begins Saturday, September 12, Happy Rock Park, 76th & No. Antioch Road. Fee: $350 per team for 8 games, includes uniform t-shirts, 3 officials per game and game equipment.
Developmental Youth Flag Football - Boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade have an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of flag football in a team environment. The program meets on Mondays for practice and on Saturday mornings for games. Registration: Monday, July 20-Friday, August 14. First practice: Monday, August 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m. First game: Saturday, September 19, Happy Rock Park, 76th & No. Antioch Road. Fee: $40, includes a uniform t-shirt.
NFL-Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick Competition - The City of Gladstone in conjunction with the Missouri Parks & Recreation Association will host this football skills competition. Participants compete in the areas of punting, passing and place kicking. There are separate boys and girls divisions in each age group, 8-13 years. Local overall winners receive a ribbon and have the opportunity to advance to regional competition and possibly onto the state competition held at a Chiefs game. Saturday, September 26, noon, Happy Rock Park, 76th & No. Antioch. Fee: Free.

Gymnastics
Gladstone Parks & Recreation and Creative Arts Academy will be offering a number of classes to children ages 3 and up at the Creative Arts Academy, Antioch Shopping Center, 5202 Chouteau Trafficway. Fee: $35 per 6-week session.
Coed Gymnastics - Children will warm up with short aerobic activity, followed by strength and flexibility development. The classes are designed to include basic advanced skills on bars, beams, vault, floor and trampoline. Children will be divided according to ability. Session II - July 8. Class #1, Wednesday, 4-5 p.m. Class #2, Thursday, 11 a.m. - noon.
Coed Tramp and Tumble - Time will be split between tumbling and trampoline focusing on developing cartwheels, round-offs, back handsprings, and related skills. Session II - July 8. Class #3, Wednesday 4-5 p.m. Class #4, Thursday, 11 a.m. - noon.
Creative Movement - For children 3-5 years of age. The primary focus of this program is to develop attention span awareness and large motor skill coordination. This is accomplished through music, movement, tumbling and games. Session II - July 8. Class #5, Wednesday, 4-5 p.m. Class #6, Thursday 11 a.m. - noon.
Cheerleading - For groups of children 6-9 and 10 and over. Students will learn cheers, chants, jumps, and arms. Basic stretching and tumbling. Tennis shoes and shorts required. The 10 and over class is a great summer activity for students already on cheering squads. Session II - July 8. Class #7, Wednesday 6-9 years old, 5:45-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday 10 & up, 6:30-7:15 p.m. Class #8, Thursday 6-9 years old, 10-10:45 a.m. and Thursday 10 & up, 11-11:45 a.m.

Self Defense Classes for Women
The following classes will be held at the Runnels' Martial Arts Academy, 7207-09 No. Broadway. If you have any questions call 436-1313.
"Safe and Sound" Women's Self Defense - Ongoing evening classes are offered to women ages 12 through adult. Have fun, build confidence, exercise, and become your own "bodyguard." Students meet once a week to learn and practice effective physical techniques to defend against attacks. In addition to physical training, students learn awareness and assertiveness skills to reduce risk of attacks and abductions. Students may enroll monthly for continuing training. Starting dates: July 2, August 6, September 3, October 1, and October 29. Thursdays, 7-8 p.m. Fee: $30.
"Safe and Sound" Women's Personal Safety Course - This four week rape prevention course is designed to encourage awareness and teach life protection skills to women, ages 12 through adult. Students explore safety strategies and learn physical techniques to successfully avoid, escape, resist, and survive a violent attack. Students are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing. Starting dates: July 11, September 12, and October 10. Saturdays, 11 a.m. - noon. Fee: $40.
Rape Prevention "Safe and Sound" Crash Course for Women - Can you spare two hours to learn skills and strategies that may save your life? This "crash course" is offered to busy women ages 12 through adult. Students are taught basic awareness and rape prevention skills. Simple, yet effective, physical techniques are practiced by participants. Dates: July 11, July 25, August 1, August 22, September 19, October 17, November 14, and December 12. Saturdays, 9-11 a.m. Fee: $25.

Developmental Youth Soccer
This developmental soccer program for boys and girls, kindergarten through 6th grade, is designed to develop an understanding of rules, team work, fundamentals, and sportsmanship. Session II: Registration deadline Friday, August 14. First practice Tuesday, August 25. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Happy Rock Park, 76th & No. Antioch Road. Fee: $25, includes a uniform t-shirt.

Adult Softball
Fall League - Games will be played Sunday through Friday nights. Fees include all game balls and scorekeepers. All games have two A.S.A. umpires. League winners will receive championship t-shirts. All games will be played at Happy Rock Park Softball Complex, 76th & No. Antioch Road. Registration deadline Friday, August 7 or when leagues fill. Play begins Sunday, August 23. Fees: Single games (6 games) - $230 per team. Doubleheader games (12 games) - $415 per team. All teams must pay a $15 A.S.A. fee per year.
Worth Grand Champion Softball Tournament - Saturday, July 18. Divisions may include: Men's B, C, D, Women's and Coed, Happy Rock Park, 76th & No. Anitoch Road. Fee: $125 per team includes a 4-game guarantee. Teams must supply their own .47 core restricted flight red stitched softballs. Awards will be presented to 1st and 2nd place teams of each division. Registration deadline Thursday prior to tournament at 12 noon. All teams must pay a $15 A.S.A. fee per year.

Swim Lesson Information
All swim lesson registration will be held on the Saturdays listed from 9-11 a.m. at the Gladstone Municipal Pool, N.E. 69th and No. Holmes. In case of inclement weather, sign-ups will be held at Gladstone City Hall, across the street from the pool. Late registration will be accepted at the pool as class space permits. July 20-July 20 Session: Registration date Saturday, July 11. Monday through Friday (9 lessons). August 3-August 13 Session: Registration date Saturday, July 25. Schedule to be announced. Lesson fees are $25 per student per class for pool members and $30 per student per class for non-members. Must present membership card when registering to receive discount. All classes are taught by qualified instructors certified by the American Red Cross. All classes meet Monday through Friday for 40 minutes, for a total of 9 classes, unless otherwise noted. Second Friday reserved for make-ups. Weather-postponed classes will be made-up at earliest opportunity. Payment must accompany enrollment. No mail-in registration accepted. Tennis
Adult Tennis Leagues - Two adult leagues are featured with informal scheduling with players assigned a match within a specified one week period. Players then arrange a convenient time and site and report the results of the match to the Parks & Recreation office. A variety of divisions are offered, including Men's Advanced or Intermediate Singles, or Intermediate Doubles, Women's Intermediate or Recreational Singles, or Recreational Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Advanced or Recreational. Division winners will be awarded a t-shirt. Registration deadline for Session II: Friday, July 17. Fee: $7 per person.
Adult Tennis Lessons - These classes are geared for both the beginner and the advanced beginner to introduce/review the basic skills of the sport as well as the game strategy. The class is limited to 12 participants. Participants must provide their own racket and one can of new tennis balls. Session II: Mondays and Wednesdays, July 13-August 5, 7-8:30 p.m. Fee $30 for 4 weeks.
Gladstone Open Tennis Tournament - This double-elimination tournament promises to be a hit with tennis enthusiasts. Registration is limited to 2 events per person, any combination. The following divisions will be offered: Men's Open, Men's A, Men's Doubles, Women's Open, Mixed Doubles, Boy's Under 17 Singles, and Girl's Under 17 Singles. All participants shall provide one new can of USTA approved tennis balls. Winners of all matches gets a new can, loser gets the old one. Division winners will receive awards for 1st and 2nd place. Registration deadline: Wednesday, September 9, 5 p.m. Tournament dates: Friday, September 11 - Sunday September 13. Various Gladstone area parks and facilities. Fee: $12 for first event, and $6 for the second event, per player.
Youth Tennis Lessons - Beginning classes are offered for individuals with no previous instruction, to introduce tennis as a lifetime sport. Advanced Beginners classes are geared for individuals with previous instruction who want to review the basics, including game strategy. All participants must provide their own racket and one new can of tennis balls. Classes are limited to 16 participants. Pre-registration is required. Session II: Monday, July 13 - Thursday, August 6. M/W Beginners 12-16 years, 10:30 noon. T/TH Adv. Beginners 8-11 years, 9-10:30 a.m. T/TH Beginners 8-11 years, 10:30 a.m. - noon. T/TH Adv. Beginners 12-16 years, 6-7:30 p.m. All morning classes will be held at Happy Rock Park Courts, 76th & No. Antioch. All evening classes will be held at Central Park, 69th & No. Campbell. Fee: $24 per player.

Developmental Youth Volleyball
Co-sponsored by the North Kansas City School District Continuing Education Program and the Gladstone Parks & Recreation Department, this program offers instruction in the fundamentals of volleyball for boys and girls in 5th through 8th grade. Registration deadline: Friday, September 4. Practices begin the week of September 14 at area middle schools. First game: Saturday, October 10, Northgate, 2117 N.E. 48th Street. Fee: $50, includes a uniform t-shirt.
